I would strongly agree that covid-19 has given a boost to education industry. People have been trying to inculcate technology in education since years using digital classrooms etc but this pandemic made everyone to adopt and embrace the technology. Kids starting attending class in zoom , many teachers made their class interesting by showing kids Youtube videos and interactive games. College students like me became totally dependent on Youtube for learning our course content. Many edtech companies like byjus have grown their userbase by 100x. Maybe that's why the valuations of edtech companies these days are mind boggling. Platforms such as Udemy and Edx claim that large number of people starting taking MOOCs but according to a recent report only 6 percent of them completed the courses. yes, many people argued that moocs are the future of education where they can learn from the best subject matter experts in the world but no , the data clearly shows that without a deadline or accountability, people wouldn't complete the course. Hence I feel the future of education will be cohort based. Cohorts meaning group, here a group of people will work along a period of time to learn with the help of a mentor. We already started seeing cohort based courses in different fields but we will see a lot more in the future. This model isn't something new , its just like the way we had tution teacher in our childhood, where every student would get the required attention and would be learning in groups. Maybe the reason YC was successful because of this model which provided them strong alumni network.
Hence overall, we might soon see lambda school based model which follows cohort based in all various field taking over traditional schools and universities giving students required attention, best faculty and a great alumni network.
